When I started with the whole wedding planning process I said to myself: “I am not going to be one of those brides who make my own invites”. Little did I know what invitations cost!
There are loads of websites out there that advertise fabulous invitations. But not many offer addresses of paper suppliers! I had to drive around Pretoria a bit to find what I needed.
I didn’t know where to start! I got quotes from suppliers and they all ranged from R40 to R60 per invite. I thought that I could do it for less. I had a few invitations from other couples in a drawer and found this basic design. 3 layers of paper, held together by a string, inside a customised envelope. Perfect. I searched for the perfect paper and used 2 suppliers. Carrots Crafters in Queenswood and Archeneers in Hatfield.
I had to buy a printer which was about R900 – but at least I have one now that can print and scan! So I see it as an investment rather than an expense. The paper, plus ribbons, plus a small glue gun and glue sticks, plus a small guillotine and some extra paper for menus and name cards worked out R1000. I made 50 invitations and 50 envelopes, printed 103 name cards and 12 menus for only R1000! I designed the wording in Photoshop and also made small cards with directions and accommodation information. Postage was very cheap – less than R100 in total – and I bought a few envelopes to post the invites. Most invites I delivered by hand.
Try to shop around before you just purchase your invitations! I managed to save loads of money by using a little creativity!
